Born: June 5, 1964 Republican Legislator Tom Cilmi currently serves constituents for the Tenth Legislative District of New York, and was first inaugurated in January 2010. The 10th District in Suffolk County encompasses Islip, East Islip, Hauppauge, Islip Terrace, Great River, Bohemia, Ronkonkoma, Bay Shore and Islandia. Legislator Cilmi is an unabashed supporter of small business. Married in 1987, Tom and Anna Cilmi have two children in college. Tom is a graduate of West Babylon Public Schools (1982) and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the New York Institute of Technology (1986). ==Legislation== Cilmi has been an outspoken critic of underage drinking and sponsored legislation to prohibit the sale of so-called binge drinking games to minors. Currently, he is trying to pass something called the "Taxpayer Awareness Act", in an effort to require transparency in the Governments budget process.〔The video: (Cilmi's Taxpayer Awareness Act ).〕 Legislator Tom Cilmi attended a press conference with Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Legislators Hahn and Anker and members of the business community to announce a new on-line permitting system aimed at speeding up Health Department and Public Works permit applications. The system is called Suffolk County Submission and Status Terminal. He has led the fight against the NY State mandate of out-of-county tuition, particularly for F.I.T. and has published articles on government efficiency, New York's Empire Zones program and Brownfields.
